National Honor Society

A student can become a member of National Honor Society during the spring semester of their junior year.  The student must meet the scholarship requirement of having a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and be of good character, perform service and have leadership qualities.  To become a member of the Anderson Chapter of National Honor Society, a student  who qualifies academically will receive a letter at school on Anderson High School letterhead informing the student that he or she has qualified academically.  An application, which includes a short essay, will need to be filled out and submitted.  Candidates who submit applications will be screened and informed of their acceptance into National Honor Society.

During the fall of the members’ senior year, members need to perform 20 hours of community service.  These hours can be performed in various places and over a period of three to six months.  In the spring semester the Anderson chapter holds a leprechaun auction, which serves as the service project, and this is used to raise money for the Kids Caring and Sharing program for Riley Children’s Hospital.

In the Spring, usually around March or April, juniors who meet the requirements for National Honor Society are inducted into the club with a formal induction ceremony, conducted primarily by the officers.  Seniors who might not have qualified in their junior year but reach the academic requirement by the end of the fall semester of their senior year and fulfill the application process are also inducted with the juniors.

For graduation, students still in good standing with Honor Society can obtain the gold cord and tassel to wear.
