Course Description
This course is conducted mostly in Spanish. The teacher and the students are expected to use Spanish during classroom management tasks, such as taking attendance and work distribution, as well as academic pursuits in the classroom. These academic pursuits consist of:
- Grammar instruction
- Vocabulary building activities
- Vocabulary practice
- Literature reading
- Literature discussions
During the course of the school year the students will have the opportunity to use Spanish for the following:
- Comprehend oral directions, oral presentations, and discussions.
- Express themselves orally by inquiring, responding, describing, arguing, and convincing.
- Read Spanish-language literature: poetry, short stories, and excerpts from novels.
- Express themselves in writing using prose, poetry, and drama.
The course utilizes several texts from which the material is presented.
- The primary texts are Encuentros Maravillosos (Pearson Prentice/Hall) and ยกAvancemos! Level 4 (McDougal Littell)
- Other course materials include Repaso: A Complete Review Workbook for Grammar, Communication, and Culture (NTC), Curso Primero (AMSCO), Album (D.C. Heath).and Leyendas Latinoamericanos (NTC).
- Other sources are available and will be used as needed.
DUAL CREDIT: All students enrolled in fourth-year Spanish at Anderson High School have the opportunity to earn six credit hours of university credit through Ivy Tech for SPAN 201 and SPAN 202. The application process will be explained in detail early in first semester.
