Mr. Kousari, Art and Soul: A Tribute to Retired AHS Teacher "Mr. K"
Art and Soul: A Tribute to Retired AHS Teacher “Mr. K” Saturday
Saturday, October 21, former AHS teacher Ehsan Kousari will be honored with a retrospective of his photography, painting, and santour designs at the Minnetrista Center in Muncie. His work will be displayed throughout the day, with a special interview and santour demonstration by Mr. Kousari at 5 p.m. Light refreshments will be served from 4 to 6 p.m.
Known to many of his students as simply “Mr.K.,” Mr. Kousari taught drawing, painting, and photography at AHS for over 40 years until his retirement a few years ago--literally teaching hundreds of students.
From 1970 to 1976 he taught art in the Anderson Community Schools, and from 1976 until retirement taught first at Madison Heights High School and then Anderson High School.
Mr. Kousari has been recognized as an Indiana Artisan by the Indiana Arts Commission for his santour designs. The santour is a Persian musical insrument (similar to a hammer dulcimer) that he designs and constructs as well as plays.
Mr. Kousari was born in Hamadan, Iran, in 1939 and came to the United States in 1964 to pursue a college education. In 1967 he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Northeast Missouri State University. In 1969 he earned a Master of Arts degree from Ball State University, and in 1971 a Master of Science.
Today Mr. Kousari and wife Mary reside in Muncie; they have three children: Nadia, Roya, and Kavon.
The event is sponsored by the Baha’i community in Muncie, in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Baha’u’llah, founder of the Baha’i Faith. Mr. Kousari has served the Baha’is in Muncie administratively for many years.
